Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) is a government-financed 13th public university of Bangladesh. It is located at Salna, Gazipur.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University was established in 1998 as a public university with an act (Act no. 16) promulgated by the government of Bangladesh.

The university was established by transforming the Institute of Post Graduate Studies in Agriculture (IPSA). IPSA was established as Bangladesh College of Agricultural Science (BCAS) in 1983 as an academic organ of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) and academically affiliated with Bangladesh Agricultural University until 1991. In 1991, IPSA was made an autonomous institution. Henceforth, IPSA started its true course credit-based MS and PhD programs. The graduate program of IPSA was developed by a team of IPSA teachers led by Prof. L. M. Eisgruver of the Oregon State University (OSU), USA under the cooperation of JICA-USAID-GOB.

Library
There is a separate building for Library having 14,418 squire feet spaces. The Library is an important organ in support and development of high quality teaching, research and outreach programs. The university library is a comprehensive and current collection of local and foreign books and journals related to agricultural and social sciences. The library includes about twenty thousand books and is under expansion through a regular acquisition program. It is accessible to students, teachers, officers, staffs and other personnel associated with the university.The transactions of books, Internet facilities, e-journals, e-books, CD-ROM service & photocopy service and are available in the library. An audiovisual room with modern equipment’s is attached to the library building, which is used for holding seminar, conference, workshops and thesis defense. Except on Govt. holidays,library opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM without any interval through Sunday to Thursday and on Saturday Library opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 5:00 PM, Friday is weekly holiday.
MEDICAL CENTER
The medical center is situated at the focal point of the university campus and is easily accessible from all the students’ dormitories, offices and residential areas. It is open on working days in two shifts from 9am to 9pm (February 01 to Nov 30) and from 9am to 8pm (Dec 01 to Jan 31) and renders routine and essential medi-care services to patients. After the shift hours, a duty doctor and supporting staff are available on call who can be reached any time at the Hotline Number (+88-01723-200168).
Services
- Routine and emergency medical services to students, teachers, officers, staff and their families & dependents. This service is provided round-the-clock throughout the year, including weekly and university holidays.
- Regular ante-natal, natal and post-natal advice are given to pregnant and lactating mothers.
- Regular vaccines are given to children in compliance with National Immunization Days.
- Regular monitoring of hypertensive and diabetic patients is done and advice given about therapeutic and non-therapeutic regimen.
- Blood glucose screening and monitoring services are available. ECG is also regularly done here, both for diagnostic and treatment purpose.
- Oxygen therapy and nebulization are given to respiratory distressed patients.
- The medical center has an air-conditioned ambulance which is well equipped for carrying emergency patients to hospitals.
The medical center is run by a team of experienced physicians and supporting staff. The existing manpower will be increased within this year to render more efficient medical services.
Activities
- Last year a total of 8,717 patients were treated at our medical center. Of them, 3823 were students and the rest were varsity employees and their family members. The female to male patient ratio was 1.5:1.
- The most prevalent diseases were of respiratory tract, both upper & lower, followed by gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, urinary tract and dermatological problems. One notable feature was the increase of psycho-somatic symptoms amongst students, especially female, during exam times.
- The medical team also provides on-the-field treatment to school and university students during annual sporting events. It also provides emergency treatment to university school students and their guardians.
- With logistic assistance from Shandhani, voluntary blood donation programs were organized on the National Mourning Days, 2017 and 2018, where students, teachers, officers and staff participated spontaneously.
Future Plans
- To upgrade the outdoor-based medical center to a centrally air-conditioned full- fledged hospital with admission facilities for 10 patients (5 male, 5 female) and to keep the medical center/hospital open for 24 hours throughout the year.
- To establish a laboratory with the basic latest testing equipments, including X-ray and ultrasonogram.
- To make the dental unit functional with all the necessary instruments and supporting staff.
- To ensure specialist consultations for referred patients.

Research and publications
The university has been conducting researches from its inception shouldering active roles in national and international agricultural research arena. Teaching excellence and effective research are conclusively interrelated in academics and that of innovation in programs. Classrooms teaching are continually powered and enriched by those faculty members who are actively engaged in research. Faculty members of this university have many long and short-term research projects and these projects are prepared as per national agricultural research needs and implemented. Some of the faculty members also prepare and implement research projects in collaboration with the national and international research scientists. In many cases, the postgraduate student research is linked with the research projects of the faculty members. The functions of the research management wing are to integrate the research programs undertaken by different academic departments, allocate budget, publish research abstracts, journals annual report, invite Research Management Committee (RMC) funded research project proposals, and to evaluate, implement and monitor these projects.
